The Grand Nord Legal Clinic (CJGN) is a legal clinic funded by Legal Aid Ontario and provides legal services to the low-income residents of Cochrane to Hornepayne. The clinic is based in Kapuskasing and has satellite offices in Hearst and Cochrane.

CJGN is seeking a lawyer or licensed paralegal for a contractual position from March 2023 until August 2024 at our Kapuskasing office with a possibility of extension.

Qualifications:
• Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
• Ability to work (speak and write) in French and English
• Excellent computer skills and interpersonal skills
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to satellite clinic locations
• Housing law experience is an asset
• Experience in a community legal clinic or law office is an asset

Responsibilities:
The Legal Worker will have an active caseload consisting mostly of social assistance and housing matters. They will provide summary advice, referrals and representation in courts and at administrative tribunals, deliver public legal education, and participate in community development and law reform initiatives. They should also have the ability to work in a fast paced environment that requires multi-tasking, work independently but also as a team, and have problem solving skills while managing strict deadlines.

The Legal Worker must also demonstrate commitment to low income individuals and vulnerable clients and the ability to provide services in a culturally respectful manner.

Salary range: $72,000 to $78,000 per year commeasuring with experience, paid vacation and sick days will be accrued over the duration of the contract.

Start date: The successful candidate will be expected to start their contract early March 2023 with some flexibility.
